Sacramento, California – Drivers across Northern California are seeing treacherous mountain conditions today after a powerful 48-hour snowstorm dropped up to 11 inches of fresh powder on the Sierra Nevada, snarling travel and reducing visibility along key routes.

According to the National Weather Service in Sacramento, snowfall totals from April 25–27 include 11 inches at Sugar Bowl Summit, 8.9 inches at the Sierra Snow Lab, and 8 inches at Palisades Summit. Areas along I-80 and Highway 50 are especially hazardous, with chain controls in place and intermittent road closures reported.
