Person dies after lying down on light rail tracks, Sacramento police say

A person died Wednesday evening after they were struck by a Sacramento Regional Transit light rail train in a suspected suicide at a station near midtown, authorities said.

The incident was reported about 5:45 p.m. Wednesday as a light rail train striking a pedestrian in the 2900 block of R Street, said Officer Anthony Gamble, a spokesperson for the Sacramento Police Department .
