Sacramento’s annual tradition of greening the environment, and saving some water along the way, is back with the Mulch Mayhem event slated for May 17, where local residents can lay their hands on free mulch and compost thanks to the City’s efforts. As stated by the Sacramento City Express, William Granger, the City’s water conservation coordinator, emphasizes the efficacy of mulch in landscaping, stating, “Just a few inches of mulch can make a big difference, especially during the hot, dry summer months.”
Mulch offers significant benefits to gardens and green spaces, it curtails the frequency of watering, bolsters soil health, and naturally deters weeds, all of which are crucial in the city’s battle against the ever-intense California heat.
