Rite Aid closings: Sacramento-area stores among wave of shut downs

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Rite Aid is closing 151 more stores as the company continues to stare down financial struggles.

The pharmacy chain recently filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection earlier this month, the second bankruptcy filing for Rite Aid in the last few years. Rite Aid also filed for bankruptcy in October 2023 and even downsized the company from 2,300 stores to about 1,200.

Local store closures

Among the stores impacted in the latest wave of closings are some locations in the Sacramento, Stockton and Modesto areas. The chain has not announced specific closure dates.

  • Sacramento: 2751 Del Paso Road
  • Antelope: 4300 Elverta Road
  • North Highlands: 6639 Watt Avenue
  • Oakdale: 1300 West F Street
  • West Sacramento: 1260 West Capitol Avenue
  • Olivehurst: 5075 Olivehurst Avenue
  • Stockton: 4774 West Lane
  • Grass Valley: 720 Sutton Way

The company plans to sell customer prescription files, inventory and other assets as it closes distribution centers and unloads store locations. Stores will remain open for now, but the company isn’t buying new inventory, so bare shelves are likely to become more common.

The company runs 1,245 stores in 15 states, according to its website. It has a heavy presence in New York, Pennsylvania and California, which alone has 347 locations…
