River Rescue: Kayaker saves man on popped raft along the American River

FAIR OAKS, Calif. — A kayaker turned a scary moment along the American River into one that a rafter might never forget.

Karl Bly is no stranger to the river. He’s a regular visitor to the waterways, often stationed near the San Juan Rapids. That’s where he was when a large group floated by with a small inner tube tied to their main raft. The tension on the rope snapped the tube and the rider, named Mario, was thrown into the rapids.
