Sacramento County Probation Department to Use Drones to Track Homeless People

Sacramento County will be using drones to track homeless people who are on probation. The county probation department says drones are needed to get a look at homeless people living in hard-to-reach spots, like those along the American River Parkway. Probation officers will also be able to communicate with people using the drones.

This will be used as a way to avoid issuing a warrant when a homeless person doesn’t appear at their probation check-in. Officials say this will also protect officers from risks like loose animals, rough terrain and other hazards out in the field.
