According to WPD, scammers are impersonating grandchildren, claiming they’ve been in a serious car crash — often involving a pregnant woman — and urgently need bail money. They might say the baby died or the woman is in critical condition.
Then, someone pretending to be a lawyer or court official may join the call, giving fake case numbers or referencing real judges to sound convincing, according to WPD. The scam is reportedly designed to create panic and pressure people into acting fast without verifying the story.
