Folsom Police Warn of Scam Calls Targeting Seniors

Folsom Police are alerting the community to a recent wave of scam calls targeting senior citizens, in which fraudsters pose as law enforcement officers in an attempt to extort money.

According to Folsom PD, residents—particularly seniors—have reported receiving calls from individuals claiming to be from a police agency. These callers often say the person on the line has missed jury duty, has an active arrest warrant, owes fines, or must pay bail. Victims are then told to make immediate payments using unconventional methods such as gift cards, wire transfers, or cryptocurrency.

“These are scams,” Folsom PD emphasized in their public warning. “Legitimate law enforcement will never call to demand money or payment by gift cards, nor will we notify you in advance of an arrest.”…
