Riders explore Folsom Lake trails during State Parks Week

Dozens of riders saddled up for a unique California State Parks Week celebration June 11, exploring Folsom Lake State Recreation Area’s 10,000 acres of trails on horseback through Shadow Glen Riding Stables’ guided tours. The business, which has operated within the park’s southern boundary at Mississippi Bar for nearly 50 years, led groups through oak woodlands and foothill pines to Lake Natoma’s edge on trails covering roughly 10,000 acres. Owner Terry Howard and his staff matched each rider with appropriate horses from their stable of more than 100 animals, taking participants past gold mining remnants while spotting local wildlife including mule deer.
