Sacramento man gets 25 years for child exploitation crimes

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The United States Department of Justice Eastern District of California announced a Sacramento man received a 25-year prison sentence for producing and possessing child sexual abuse material. U.S. District Judge William B. Shubb issued the sentence to 30-year-old Jayson Fernandez Butay and ordered him to pay $118,278 in restitution to his victims.

According to Acting U.S. Attorney Kimberly A. Sanchez, Butay used Snapchat in April 2019 to exploit a 15-year-old girl in Finland by convincing her to send explicit images. He then threatened to share these images unless she provided more explicit videos. Butay also produced similar material involving other minors, including an unidentified 9-year-old girl.
