Expired Plates Lead to Rancho Cordova Drug Bust

What began as a routine traffic stop for expired registration quickly escalated into a major drug bust, thanks to the alert response of Rancho Cordova Police Department (RCPD) officers.

According to a recent release from the department, RCPD patrol officers conducted a stop on a vehicle displaying registration tags that had not been renewed since 2017. During the stop, officers learned the driver was on searchable probation following a prior conviction for drug sales.

Exercising their legal authority under the driver’s probation conditions, officers conducted a search of the vehicle. Inside, they discovered a large quantity of illegal drugs, including fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine, methadone, hallucinogens, and numerous prescription medications. Police said the drugs were packaged in a manner consistent with sales, not personal use…
