SACRAMENTO — California Governor Gavin Newsom announced Thursday the addition of two Sikorsky S-70i Firehawk helicopters to the state’s firefighting fleet, enhancing its capabilities. The announcement was made in a Sacramento hangar alongside Cal Fire officials.
The two helicopters, equipped with 1,000-gallon water tanks, night vision capabilities, a fixed external hoist for rescue operations and room for a nine-person crew, bring Cal Fire’s fleet total to 16. This marks the completion of a series of purchases initiated several years ago.
“There’s simply no jurisdiction in the world that has more assets that bare more aerial assets than the state of California,” Newsom said. “We’ve made bold commitments over the course of the last many, many years and we’re delivering you on those commitments and that’s the purpose of today.”…
