Sacramento Man Indicted on 11 Counts for Distributing Fake Immigration Documents and Illegal Reentry

A Sacramento man stands accused of peddling counterfeit immigration documents and unlawfully setting foot on U.S. soil after a previous deportation, following the unveiling of an 11-count federal indictment. The charges against Luis Eduardo Torres-Hernandez, 39, include 10 counts of transferring false identification documents and one count of illegal reentry into the country, as pronounced by Acting U.S. Attorney Kimberly A. Sanchez.

The indictment, sourced from court documents, alleges that between September and December 2024, Torres-Hernandez distributed several sets of fraudulent identification to undercover agents. These included Permanent Resident cards, commonly known as green cards, and Social Security cards, which, despite their convincing appearance, were forged documents produced without legal authorization. The investigation that led to the indictment was conducted by Homeland Security Investigations, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Dhruv M. Sharma leading the prosecution.

Torres-Hernandez, who was previously removed from U.S. grounds on Aug. 29, 2014, after a prior conviction in the Eastern District of California for transferring false identification documents. If found guilty on the current charges, he faces up to 20 years in prison and a fine of $250,000 for each false document count, and an additional 10 years with up to $250,000 fine for the illegal reentry count…
