In a recent attempt to rejuvenate one of Sacramento’s natural gems, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office has reported a significant cleanup effort along the American River Parkway. In a collaborative effort that featured the Sheriff’s Homeless Outreach Team, the North POP Team, Sacramento County Regional Parks Rangers, and the Sacramento County Probation Department, the operation tackled an island riddled with refuse and desolation.
According to the Sheriff’s Office social media post, what was found was not just a scene of environmental neglect, but a living space for a homeless individual amidst the squalor. It took the services of a Sheriff’s helicopter to airlift over 10 tons of trash, clearing the area from the debris that time, and neglect, seems to have forgotten.
