Suspect Arrested in Sacramento Drive-By Shooting

SACRAMENTO, CA – A man is in critical condition and a suspect is in custody following a drive-by shooting that occurred on Tuesday, August 12, 2025. The incident took place around 12:15 PM near the intersection of Morse Avenue and Lerwick Way.

North Division Patrol Deputies were the first to arrive on the scene after receiving a report of a shooting. They discovered an adult male with a gunshot wound to the head and immediately began providing medical assistance. The victim was then transported to a local hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

Following the discovery of the victim’s serious injuries, Sheriff’s Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators were dispatched to the scene. Their investigation determined that the victim was seated in the back of a vehicle when a suspect, identified as 46-year-old Jason Hankins, allegedly conducted a drive-by shooting, striking the victim in the head. This is hardly Hankins’ first brush with the law.
