Bay Area man found dead after jumping into Sacramento River

A Bay Area man drowned after jumping into the water at a Rio Vista beach, officials at the Solano County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday.

On Wednesday around 4:30 p.m., the agency received a call about a person “missing in the water” at Sandy Beach in Rio Vista, officials said. Sheriff’s deputies and its marine patrol office, Rio Vista police officers and neighboring agencies searched for the swimmer until approximately 8 a.m. the next day, to no avail, officials said.

But around 4 p.m. Thursday, a remotely operated vehicle located the man, 23-year-old Nico Cuevas, of Antioch, underwater in the Sandy Beach area. Divers recovered the body, officials said…
