As students return to school in Sacramento, the city is increasing efforts to improve road safety both near schools and throughout the capital by addressing speeding. Sacramento has partnered with the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS), Caltrans, the California Highway Patrol (CHP), and local group Slow Down Sacramento to launch the “Slow the Fast Down” campaign, a statewide initiative to reduce vehicle speeds on public roads, as Sacramento City Express reports.
Speed-related accidents, a major cause of serious and fatal crashes, have led Sacramento to intensify its Vision Zero mission, which aims to eliminate traffic fatalities and serious injuries within the city. The initiative focuses on high-risk areas such as Folsom Boulevard, known for incidents involving pedestrians and bicyclists.
