Get ready, Sacramento: 916 Day is almost here, and it’s your chance to dig into the dirt and help spruce up city parks. The Department of Youth, Parks, & Community Enrichment (YPCE) is on the lookout for volunteers eager to roll up their sleeves on three different occasions throughout the city this September—no prior experience required, just a dash of local spirit and willingness to work.
The first event is kicking off at Granite Regional Park on September 6, with tasks including mulching trails and the skate park to enhance safety measures and fight against erosion, then the volunteer effort moves on to Del Paso Regional Park next Saturday where there will be more mulching, this time around playground areas, as well as bench painting and finally volunteers will round out 916 Day efforts at Miller Regional Park on September 20 with things like repainting parking lines and general cleanup, according to the Sacramento City Express.
“No experience is needed – just bring your energy, gloves and Sacramento pride,” YPCE spokesperson Gabby Miller was quoted, emphasizing the communal aspect of the initiative—916 Day isn’t just about maintaining public spaces but about fostering a sense of togetherness through shared effort provided you can spare as little as 30 minutes, or maybe a few hours, she suggests that any contribution of time is valuable and makes a difference in keeping Sacramento’s parks in tip-top shape…
