California firefighters honor 9/11 victims in memorial stair climb

(FOX40.com) – The community in Sacramento reflected on the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks that forever left an impact on the nation. On Thursday, hundreds of firefighters gathered in Sacramento to honor the 343 first responders who gave the ultimate sacrifice 24 years ago.

This year, the memorial stair climb was held at the 22-story Esquire Tower in Downtown Sacramento. Firefighters climbed up and down five times in honor of the 110 stories that thousands of first responders rushed up on Sept. 11, 2001.

Sacramento Fire Department Fire Chief Chris Costamagna participated in the memorial stair climb for several years. Each firefighter wears the name of a first responder who died on their gear and carries their biography to the top of the building…
