Sacramento County officials warn of EBT app charging California users for access to benefits

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Sacramento County has issued a warning to EBT cardholders from the California Department of Social Services over what they said was a fake app that requires users to pay fees to access their benefits.

Sacramento County officials said the app — listed in Apple’s iOS App Store as “Ebt edge – food stamps” — closely resembles the official ebtEDGE app but is not connected to the state.

County officials said the “fraudulent app” charges users a $4.99 weekly fee or a $60 fee for lifetime access to their benefits…
