Heads up, Sacramento drivers — the Police Department is rolling out a DUI checkpoint tonight, as confirmed by the Sacramento City Express. From 8:00 p.m. until the wee hours of 1:00 a.m., be prepared for stops within city limits. It’s part of an effort to deter impaired driving before it starts, says Officer Allison Smith. “Our goal is not just to catch impaired drivers, but to prevent dangerous decisions before they happen,” she told the Sacramento City Express.
The locations selected for tonight’s operation are hotspots for accidents related to impaired driving – not a random pick. The police aim to make their presence known and, in doing so, convince folks to find other means home if they’ve had anything that might impair their driving, whether it’s a glass of wine or a prescription pill.
