Montgomery County, TX – Detectives with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office say two men from Sacramento, California, have been charged in connection with the 2023 murder of Vyshawn Johnson in Porter, Texas.
According to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, the investigation—led by the Major Crimes Unit and Gang Investigations Unit—identified Nishad Scruggs, 31, and Trevon Oates, 28, as suspects in the November 1, 2023, killing.
Scruggs was arrested on June 25, 2025, in Sacramento and later extradited to Texas, where he remains in custody at the Montgomery County Jail.
