Crash landing in Sacramento: pilot’s quick thinking prevents disaster on busy freeway

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Retired California Highway Patrol Officer, Chad Millward was the pilot flying the REACH medical helicopter that crash landed on Highway 50 in Sacramento Monday evening.

The helicopter landed on the embankment and rolled onto the notoriously busy freeway surrounded by homes, narrowly missing the cars and houses around it. Bystanders on the freeway captured videos showing the exact moment the helicopter hit the ground, immediately going up in smoke.
