Channing Tatum plays Rancho Cordova man in new movie ‘Roofman’

RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. — Jeffrey Manchester, the “Rooftop Robber” and criminal subject of the new Channing Tatum movie “Roofman,” is from Rancho Cordova, according to public record and Sacramento news archives.

Manchester, 53, graduated Cordova High School in 1991, according to an article The Sacramento Bee published May 23, 2000. He is a U.S. Army veteran who robbed over 40 fast food restaurants and stores by sawing through roofs in 1998.

In 2000, Manchester was caught in North Carolina and later sentenced to 45 years in prison. Four years later, he escaped and hid from authorities for months in a Charlotte Toys “R” Us…
