Sacramento City College Celebrates Native American Heritage Month with Local Tribes and Community Events

In November 2025, Sacramento City College is observing National Native American Heritage Month. The month is dedicated to recognizing the cultures, languages, and histories of Native American Nations. The college highlights the importance of acknowledging the sovereignty and land stewardship of Tribal Nations in the Sacramento region. The Maidu, Miwok, and Nisenan peoples have lived in this area for generations.

As part of the observance, Sacramento City College has shared its official Land Acknowledgement Statement. The statement was developed with input from local Tribes. It recognizes the Maidu, Miwok, and Nisenan people and their ongoing presence in the Sacramento Valley. The college encourages the community to consider this history and the continued role of Indigenous peoples.

During the month, the college is hosting several events to mark Native American heritage. On November 4, there will be a Blessing, Storytelling, and Beading Workshop. A session titled ‘World on Fire: Indigenous Storytelling of Survivance, Resilience, and Renewal for Uncertain Times’ will also take place. On November 5, the college will hold cultural presentations.
