Local Officers Injured in Attack at California State Prison, Sacramento; Investigation Underway

On November 1, 2025, two peace officers at California State Prison, Sacramento (SAC) were attacked by inmate Jason Brannigan, 48, during a cell search escort. Brannigan allegedly used an improvised weapon in the incident. Staff responded with physical force and chemical agents. The officers received immediate medical attention and were transported to an outside facility. They are reported to be in fair condition.

After the incident, Brannigan was moved to restricted housing. SAC officials have started an investigation.
