Folsom Fire, medics transport 4 injured in Monday prison riot

FOLSOM – A violent disturbance at California State Prison, Sacramento, prompted a Multi-Casualty Incident (MCI) Response by Folsom Fire personnel Monday after what CDCR officials are classifying as a riot inside one of the prison’s housing units.

According to information provided to Folsom Times by Todd Javernick, Public Information Officer with Office of Public and Employee Communications (OPEC) within the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, the incident occurred at approximately 10 a.m. within Facility A and involved an estimated 20 incarcerated individuals. “Staff utilized chemical agents, warning shots, and non-lethal weapons to quickly restore order,” Javernick stated. “Four improvised weapons were recovered from the scene.”

Four inmates sustained injuries requiring transfer to outside hospitals for further treatment. Their injuries were described as non-life threatening. No staff members were hurt during the incident, according to Javernick…
