SACRAMENTO, Calif. — More than 16 months after fire and smoke damaged the Colonial Heights Library and prompted its closure, the building will re-open for basic library services.
The fire at the South Sacramento library happened in late July 2024. After a lengthy claims process involving the insurance policies of both the City of Sacramento and county-wide Sacramento Public Library Authority, basic library services are set to begin again on Tuesday, Dec. 9.
“Starting December 9, you’ll be able to pick up your holds, return items, use our public computers, Wi-Fi and printers, and stay and enjoy the library,” according to a news release from the Sacramento Public Library Authority. “The building will be a work in progress. We will open with a small collection. We received our first shipment of books and materials in early November, and most of our furniture has arrived. We expect more deliveries through early 2026. Thank you for your patience as we continue to fill our shelves and put the finishing touches in place.”…
