Elk Grove Animal Shelter seeks volunteers to provide comfort to dogs this winter

According to the Elk Grove Animal Shelter, there is an increased intake of dogs heading into the winter months. Temporary foster homes play a critical role in reducing kennel stress, creating space for new arrivals and giving dogs a warm, quiet place to decompress.

Shelter staff and volunteers will be on hand at the event to help match families with dogs that fit their lifestyle. Medical care, food, leashes and crates (as needed) will be provided along with same-day foster approval, EGAS explained.

“Holiday fostering gives our dogs the gift of comfort, rest, and companionship during a time that can be particularly stressful in the shelter,” Sarah Humlie, Animal Services Manager, said. “We’re hoping community members will consider opening their homes for even a short break, it makes a life-changing difference.”…
