What started as a routine hospital discharge in Roseville turned violent when a man allegedly stole a woman’s car in the parking lot of Sutter Roseville Medical Center and hit her with the vehicle as he sped away, according to police. The woman suffered serious injuries, officers said. The car was found about an hour later, and the suspect was arrested the next day in Orangevale. Roseville police said the 30-year-old man was booked on multiple felony counts.
What police say
According to KCRA, Roseville police said 30-year-old Christian Somerville of Orangevale had just been discharged from Sutter Roseville Medical Center when he approached a woman in the hospital parking lot and asked her for a ride. When she said no, Somerville allegedly climbed into her vehicle and drove off, striking the woman and a parked car as he fled. Police told KCRA the victim suffered serious injuries and that she did not know Somerville.
Search and arrest
Officers later found the woman’s vehicle about an hour after the carjacking, but it was empty, according to CBS Sacramento. Roughly 16 hours after the initial incident, police located Somerville in Orangevale and arrested him. He was booked into the South Placer County Jail on allegations including carjacking, assault with a deadly weapon, hit-and-run with injury and hit-and-run. The investigation is still active, police said.
