Sacramento Opens Over 2,000 Homelessness Cases and Removes Nearly 92,000 Pounds of Trash in One Week

The City of Sacramento has released its latest weekly report on homelessness response for December 1–7, showing increased activity. According to the city’s release, the city received 583 calls regarding unsheltered individuals, leading to 2,140 cases being opened. The data comes from the updated 311 reporting system, implemented on July 28, to provide the public with more detailed information on the city’s efforts to address homelessness.

During this period, the City’s Incident Management Team (IMT) closed 2,967 cases, indicating that issues were resolved, compliance was achieved, or the situation no longer existed upon inspection. The City’s Department of Community Response enrolled 115 individuals into databases connecting them with shelters and other resources. As of last Tuesday, 20 people were placed at the City’s Roseville Road campus or the Outreach and Engagement Center (OEC), with no available cabins at Roseville Road and one space remaining at the OEC.

The City also removed approximately 91,500 pounds of trash during this period, reflecting ongoing efforts to maintain public spaces. City-funded shelters currently have an average of 14 available openings, not including the Roseville Road campus and the Outreach and Engagement Center (OEC)…
