A California deputy died in a car crash on Christmas Eve in what authorities said could be due to wet weather as major storms battered the state.

In a statement shared on Facebook, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office shared that Deputy James Caravallo, who was with the department for 19 years, “was tragically killed in a solo vehicle car crash on his way to work at Rio Cosumnes Correctional Center” on Wednesday, Dec. 24.

“Our hearts are with Deputy Caravallo’s family, and we ask the public to keep Deputy Caravallo’s loved ones and our Sheriff’s Office family in their thoughts and prayers,” authorities added…
