NorCal law enforcement crack down on illegal fireworks amid New Year’s Eve, surprise fines

(FOX40.COM) — Law enforcement in Northern California is preparing to crack down on people who light up illegal fireworks amid the New Year’s Eve holiday.• Video Above: Lesser known holiday traditions

“As we head into New Year’s Eve, Sacramento Police and Sacramento Fire will be working together through the night to help keep our community safe,” SPD said on social media. “Our focus is on addressing illegal and dangerous fireworks so everyone can enjoy a safe and fun start to the new year.”

SPD’s Air Operations team will reportedly utilize drones to identify the illegal firework activity and respond faster. In the past, some violators were surprised to receive citations in the mail days or weeks after shooting illicit fireworks into the sky.

“If you see the illegal use, sale, or distribution of fireworks, please report it to the Sacramento Fire Department,” SPD said. “Let’s all do our part to keep New Year’s Eve safe and enjoyable for everyone.”…
