Millions of Californians brace for changes to Medi-Cal

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Enjoying the outdoors with her dog Junior is important, Pamela Bridant said, and it’s something she does at every opportunity.

“Sacramento, we have such a wide range of activities between the two rivers,” she said. “We have fishing. [Junior] loves to go fishing with me. And then, just like, you know, wading our feet in the summertime or just go skipping some stones.”

  • There is an upcoming 2027, 80 hour/month work or community service requirement for Medi-Cal
  • Another change is Medi-Cal not accepting new undocumented enrollees as another cost-saving measure
  • Reports indicate the Medi-Cal changes could affect up to 3.4 million Californians
  • California has higher minimum wages than most of the country, and if people work and make $540 a month, that will negate the 80-hour work requirement
