Arden Fair Horror, Pedestrian Struck And Killed At Busy Mall Entrance

A pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle Monday night just outside Arden Fair Mall, turning a busy Arden-Arcade entrance into a crash investigation scene, Sacramento police said. Officers shut down the area at Arden Way and Heritage Lane while detectives and crime scene investigators tried to piece together what happened. The department’s Major Collisions Investigation Unit responded, and the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office said it will release the victim’s identity after next-of-kin has been notified. Traffic in the area was disrupted as crews canvassed for witnesses.

According to FOX40, the pedestrian was taken to a local hospital, where they later died from their injuries. Police said the driver stayed at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. Detectives continued interviewing witnesses and combing through the area overnight, the outlet reported. Officials also asked anyone with information or video of the incident to reach out to Sacramento police dispatch or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers, according to the same report.

Deadly Arden Way Corridor Was Already On Safety Watch List

Caltrans lists Arden Way as part of the city’s High Injury Network and identifies it as one of the corridors with a high number of fatal and severe-injury crashes. Caltrans notes that the corridor has been prioritized for a Vision Zero and mobility plan. Regional officials broke ground in February 2025 on an Arden Way Complete Streets project that will widen sidewalks and add separated bike lanes, according to SACOG.
