4 dead in Rancho Cordova shooting, investigation ongoing

UPDATE 4:30 p.m. — Investigators say a call about gunfire quickly escalated into a high-risk situation involving weapons and potential booby traps, ultimately leading to the discovery of four bodies inside the Rancho Cordova home.

Deputies responded to reports of shots fired in the neighborhood at about 8:30 a.m., the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department said. As deputies learned more, they learned a man — believed to live in the home — had access to multiple weapons and possible military equipment.

“We have received an additional call from someone identifying themselves as the shooter and and stating that they had also placed some booby traps at the location,” Sgt. Edward Igoe, a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office, said in a news conference Tuesday afternoon…
