Around 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, officers from the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office and the Rancho Cordova Police Department responded to the 5400 block of Mill Water Circle. A neighbor reported hearing gunshots and screaming.
Less than five minutes later, a man, later identified as 58-year-old David Vallerga, called 911, provided his address, and stated he was “the shooter,” according to SCSO. Vallerga also said he installed “booby traps” inside the residence. However, the booby traps were never found.
Officers set up a perimeter and evacuated nearby residents after hearing what they believed to be a single gunshot. Law enforcement said they learned that Vallerga had prior military experience and possessed numerous firearms…
