Central Division deputies in South Sacramento pulled over a vehicle near Stockton Boulevard and Fruitridge Road on Monday morning for a vehicle-code violation, leading to the arrest of 50-year-old Lamar Addison after he tried to run when deputies learned he was on parole. He was caught nearby, taken to Sacramento County Main Jail, and is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.
A search of the vehicle uncovered suspected narcotics and “a loaded firearm with four rounds in the magazine,” along with additional evidence. The sheriff’s office noted that state law prevents the public release of Addison’s booking photo because the alleged crimes are classified as non-violent, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office on their X account.

Sex-offender status and legal context
The sheriff’s post also noted that Addison “is registered as a sex offender (PC 290, tier 3),” information the department chose to highlight in its public update. California uses a three-tier sex-offender registry system, and Tier 3 is generally reserved for the most serious offenses and typically involves lifetime registration, according to legal guides. KegLawyers outlines how the tiered system works and explains the petition process that can apply in some cases.
Where it happened
The stop took place at the busy Stockton Boulevard and Fruitridge Road corridor in South Sacramento, a stretch that already has a reputation for heavy traffic and safety concerns. The City of Sacramento has been moving forward with a Fruitridge Road improvement project that includes rebuilding curbs, upgrading traffic signals and adding bike infrastructure along segments that include the Stockton Boulevard area. The City of Sacramento has posted project details, and local TV outlet KCRA has previously reported on crashes and pedestrian collisions in the corridor.
What the charges could mean
Because deputies say Addison told them he was on parole, any firearm possession could carry added legal stakes on top of potential new narcotics or weapons counts. Federal law under 18 U.S.C. § 922(g) bars certain categories of people from possessing firearms, and California Penal Code § 29800 makes it a crime for people with specified convictions to have guns…
