Man sentenced to life for murder, carjacking at Sacramento bank parking lot

STOCKTON, Calif. — A man was sentenced to life in prison for a murder that occurred during a carjacking at a drive-up ATM in June of 2021, according to the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office.

The defendant, Jimmy Washington, was apprehended after carjacking the victim, James Nguyen’s, work van at a Wells Fargo near Stockton Blvd and Florin Rd. Washington was just feet away from the victim, who was fixing the ATM. Nguyen tried to stop the theft, but Washington sped through the parking lot with Nguyen hanging from the driver’s-side window.

The incident resulted in Nguyen falling from the window and being run over, which put him into a vegetative state for nearly a year before he passed from his injuries, the district attorney’s office said. Washington was tried under the circumstance that the murder occurred during the carjacking…
