Sacramento man now faces federal gun charge in Ash Wednesday school incident

A man now faces a federal criminal charge after he reportedly went onto the St. Mary’s Parish School campus in Sacramento while armed with a gun and tried to enter the church during an Ash Wednesday mass.

An off-duty Sacramento police detective disarmed a man who carried a loaded handgun Wednesday morning into the crowded church at St Mary’s Parish School, according to the Sacramento Police Department.

Police said the 20-year-old Sacramento man was arrested on suspicion of possessing a gun at a school, a felony charge.
