SACRAMENTO, California — A criminal complaint has been filed against a 20-year-old Sacramento man for possessing a firearm within a school zone, according to U.S. Attorney Eric Grant.
Brian Richard Girardot Jr., a former student at St. Mary Parish School, allegedly returned to the school on February 18, 2026, after dropping off a younger relative. He attempted to enter the church building with a loaded firearm during an Ash Wednesday mass, which began at 8 a.m., stated the press release. Additional ammunition and a camouflage jacket were found in his vehicle parked nearby.
A search of Girardot’s home by law enforcement revealed handwritten notes containing references to suicide and threats, according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Sacramento Police Department, who are conducting the investigation.
