Deputy Fatally Shoots Shotgun-Wielding Man After Woman Reports Feeling Unsafe in Sacramento County

A tense roadside encounter in Sacramento County ended in tragedy Friday after a sheriff’s deputy shot and killed a man who reportedly pulled a shotgun during an investigation involving a woman who said she felt unsafe.

Distress Call Sparks Rapid Response

Authorities say the situation began when a passerby reported seeing what appeared to be a woman in distress near New Hope and Orr roads, west of the Galt area.

A deputy responded to the scene and located a silver sedan with a man and woman inside. After speaking with the deputy, the woman stated she did not feel safe. The deputy then escorted her to his patrol vehicle to separate her from the situation.

Situation Escalates

While the woman was being secured inside the patrol car, the man allegedly retrieved a shotgun from his vehicle. According to officials, the deputy attempted to de-escalate the situation for several minutes.

Despite those efforts, gunfire was ultimately exchanged. The man was shot and pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not yet been released…
