Inmate dies after medical emergency at Rio Cosumnes jail, Sacramento sheriff says

A 57-year-old inmate died Sunday after suffering a medical emergency at the Rio Cosumnes Correctional Center near Elk Grove, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident occurred about 2 p.m. in an open housing pod, the Sheriff’s Office said, where other inmates alerted deputies that the man was having a seizure.

Deputies found the inmate unresponsive on his bunk and began CPR as jail medical staff responded. The Sheriff’s Office said the man regained a pulse and was taken to a hospital…
