Supervisor Rodriguez Meeting to Discuss Cityhood for Rio Linda and Elverta

The debate over local control is returning to the forefront of our community conversation. Since taking office, Sacramento County District 4 Supervisor Rosario Rodriguez has noted a steady stream of inquiries from residents regarding the potential incorporation of Rio Linda and Elverta.

In response, Rodriguez has scheduled a community-wide meeting for Thursday, April 9, at 5:00 PM at the Rio Linda Teen Center to discuss what a transition from an unincorporated community to an official city might actually look like.

A Longstanding Conversation

For those who have lived here as long as I have, the “Cityhood” topic is a familiar one. Over the years, we’ve seen various waves of interest in incorporation, often sparked by concerns over local planning, law enforcement response times, and how our tax dollars are allocated by the County.

Through my work with the Rio Linda Elverta Neighborhood Association (RLENA) and our local CPAC (Community Planning Advisory Council), we’ve frequently discussed the balance between maintaining our rural identity and the desire for more direct local representation. This meeting serves as a formal opportunity to look at the modern realities of that trade-off.
