Heavy fire burns through vacant commercial building in Sacramento, investigation underway

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A fire at a vacant commercial building in Sacramento drew a large emergency response Tuesday afternoon, according to the Sacramento Fire Department.

Capt. Justin Sylvia, with Sacramento Fire Department, said crews responded around 4:15 p.m. to the 400 block of University Ave after receiving multiple 911 calls reporting heavy fire that had already extended through the roof.

When firefighters arrived, they confirmed flames were coming through the roof. Sylvia said crews determined the fire inside the building was too extensive to safely send firefighters indoors…
