Garbage truck fire in Roseville sparks warning about lithium-ion battery disposal

(FOX40.COM) — Roseville officials are warning residents about the dangers of improperly discarded lithium-ion batteries after a recent fire erupted inside a garbage truck when a battery was crushed during a routine collection route.

Video released by the city shows the fire igniting within seconds after the battery was compacted inside the truck. Officials said the incident marks the fourth garbage truck fire reported since the start of the year.

City officials said the fires pose serious risks to drivers, sanitation crews, equipment and the community.
