Deputies seek suspect after fake utility worker enters St. Clair County house

ST. CLAIR COUNTY, Ill. (First Alert 4) – The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a report of a fake and suspicious utility worker who showed up at a house on Wednesday.

A homeowner on Signal Hill Boulevard in unincorporated Belleville reported to law enforcement around 4:53 p.m. that a man had identified himself as an Ameren utility worker, according to the sheriff’s office. The man entered the home after saying there was a problem with the interior utility connections.

The man did not have any identification or a safety vest displaying the company’s logo. He fled the home in a white, unmarked Chevrolet pickup truck after he overheard the homeowner on the phone with dispatchers…
