Precautionary sewer backup advisory issued for area near downtown sinkhole

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) – Authorities have issued a precautionary sewer back-up advisory for the area near a massive sinkhole that has formed in downtown St. Louis.

The Metropolitan Sewer District (MSD) and other authorities issued the advisory, saying subsequent damage to a 12-foot-diameter sewer main near Broadway and Biddle could increase the risk of basement backups when it rains. A large sinkhole has formed at the site of the break, which is below a raised section of I-44. A stretch of I-44 near and in downtown is closed.
