Sinkhole repairs continue beneath I-44; reopening date still unknown

ST. LOUIS – The massive sinkhole that shut down Interstate 44 downtown remains a major concern, but after heavy rain moved through the area, crews say one feared complication never happened.

Crews are hard at work but it’s easy to see why they aren’t rushing to reopen I-44. MoDOT officials say their biggest concern at the moment is making sure the exposed support column underneath the highway is stable before anyone is allowed back on the roadway.
