City of Venice Looking For Help With Groundhogs

Venice City Council met on June 29 for a rare third meeting of the month. Alderman Tyrone Echols was absent. Three residents took advantage of their right to make a public comment and ask questions of Mayor Phillip White and the council.

Allison Terrell asked if the Chestnut Mobile Clinic could come to Venice Library like it does Granite City. White referred Terrell to City Clerk Tish Glasper who also serves on the library board. Terrell also asked the board to allow the advisory committee to meet with Mr. Quincy to help clean up city property. White responded that if she comes up with a plan the city will support it. He added that while the city will always support its older residents with yard work, if anyone sees a city worker cutting a resident’s yard during working hours to call their alderman to contact the street department to verify they were sent as they are not supposed to be cutting residents’ yards during their shifts.

Next, Karen Sanders asked if there was a law or rule against a lighted sign on businesses. White responded that the only requirement is a permit from city hall…
